Common Questions
Can I combine the cash rebate with the tax credit?
Yes. You can pair the 30% base J-LOC Subsidy Program rebate (or the 40% enhanced rate) with JVTA (Japan Visual Tourism Association) national tax credits when the project is set up as an approved Japanese co-production. The same expenses cannot be counted twice.
When will I receive the cash rebate?
The JVTA (Japan Visual Tourism Association) usually pays the rebate 6–9 months after it receives your full audited cost reports and compliance paperwork.
Is there a cap on the rebate amount?
Yes. The rebate is capped at $30 million per audiovisual work, and it is paid as a single sum.
Do I need a Japanese production company?
Yes. You must work with a Japanese production services company. Fixers in Japan can act as your local partner and handle every requirement.
