metro
Osaka Metro has 9 lines covering the city extensively. Runs 5am-midnight. Clean and efficient.
Crew tip: Metro filming requires Osaka Metro authorization (2+ weeks). Midosuji Line is busiest - avoid rush hours.
train
JR, Hankyu, Hanshin, Kintetsu, and Nankai railways connect to suburbs and other cities.
Crew tip: JR Osaka Loop Line circles central areas. Shinkansen at Shin-Osaka (15 min from city center).
taxi
Readily available throughout the city. Black taxis are premium service. Automatic doors standard.
Crew tip: DiDi and JapanTaxi apps work well. Jumbo taxis available for equipment transport.
bus
City buses supplement metro network. Less essential than in other cities due to extensive subway.
Central areas like Umeda and Namba have limited parking. Coin parking lots more available than Tokyo. Underground parking at major stations.
Production vehicle permits through ward offices. Castle park area has some larger lots. Industrial areas near Osaka Bay offer more space for base camps.
Osaka is compact - most locations within 20-min metro ride. Namba to Osaka Castle: 10 min. Umeda to Namba: 10 min. Day trips to Kyoto (30 min by Shinkansen or 50 min by private train) and Nara (45 min) easy to arrange.
