From initial concept to production-ready plans, our team sets the foundation for successful films, TV, commercials, and digital content around the world.

🎬

Creative Excellence

Our writers and directors have worked on NHK, TV Asahi, and international co-productions. They shape scripts, storyboards, and visual treatments for Japanese and foreign audiences alike.

Strategic Planning

We build budgets in yen, drawn from real Japanese vendor quotes, and plan the timeline around Golden Week and Obon. Tokyo needs extra care, since its filming restrictions and logistics are unlike anywhere else.

🌍

Japan Expertise

We secure Japanese Film Commission backing and ward office permits, then add cultural consultation. This lets international productions work smoothly while they shoot in Japan.

On Location

Pre-Production Planning Across Japan

From the dense urban grid of Tokyo's Shinjuku ward to the historic streets of Kyoto and the coastal light of Okinawa, our pre-shoot team maps every detail before a single camera rolls.

Schedules built on real Japanese permit timelines and Golden Week reality β€” never optimistic guesses about ward office or location approvals.

We handle scheduling, logistics, site research, and creative development across Japan's varied geography. Your brief becomes a workable plan that protects both your schedule and your creative aims. Good advance prep is what splits a smooth Japan shoot from one derailed by permit delays, access refusals, or last-minute crew changes.

Our Scriptwriting and Script Consultation services give global productions a solid base. The brief may be adapting a treatment for a shoot in Osaka, or building original work set against the forests of Hokkaido. Storyboarding and Concept Development come next, so directors and clients can picture scenes in real Japanese settings before they commit resources.

For pitching, we prepare Pitch Decks and Moodboards. They show the visual feel of Japan's cities, seasons, and landscapes to financiers, commissioners, and broadcast partners. Each creative pitch stays anchored in shoot-ready details.

FAQs

Pre-Production FAQs

Clear answers on timelines, coverage, and how we tailor planning to your production.

What's included in pre-production services?

Our team handles the full slate of production services. That covers script breakdown, scheduling, and location searches across all 47 prefectures. We cast through Tokyo agencies and pick crew from our vetted network. Budgets are built in yen with consumption tax, and we file permits with ward offices and the Japanese Film Commission. You get the complete package ready by the first day of filming.

How long does pre-production take?

Feature films need at least 10 to 14 weeks to lock locations, clear Japanese permits, and finalize casting. Commercials run shorter, around three to five weeks when the sites are easy to reach. Documentaries vary the most, since timing turns on access and when interviews can be booked. Japanese permitting takes longer than a Western shoot, so build in extra time.

Do you work with international productions shooting in Japan?

That's our specialty. We bridge the gap between global production firms and Japanese crews, vendors, and authorities. Our team handles it all, from carnet needs for gear entering Japan to briefing Japanese crews whose English may be limited. Most of our clients are US, UK, European, and Asian productions shooting on Japanese soil.

Can you work within a specific budget?

We build budgets in yen with detailed line items that show what Japanese vendors really charge. Japan is a premium market, and Tokyo production costs run higher than the rest of Asia. If you have a target number, we'll tell you honestly what's achievable and where you might trim scope or shooting days.

What happens if permits get denied or locations fall through?

Japanese location owners can be cautious about filming, and permit timelines often run longer than expected. We plan for this with a backup option for each primary location. Our location managers know property owners across Japan, and they know which sites have held up on past shoots and which tend to fall through.
