Communication Systems
Professional on-set communication equipment keeping your production coordinated and running smoothly.
Production comms gear keeps every department linked across sets, stages, and remote locations. Professional intercom systems, walkie-talkies, and wireless networks tie the crew together. Directors, assistant directors, camera, sound, and production management all talk in real time through the shooting day.
We supply and set up comms packages scaled to your crew size and the demands of each location. Our team plans channels, hands out gear, and configures the tech. Your departments then stay in touch from the first call to wrap each day.

On-Set Comms Across Japanese Locations
Production comms in Japan have to work in tough spots. The building and the radio range often fight you at every turn.
Thick-walled Kyoto temples, multi-floor Yokohama warehouses, and RF-saturated Shibuya streets each demand careful channel planning. We deploy Motorola digital and analog radios, Clear-Com and Riedel intercom systems, and IFB feeds. These come through our Hibino, Tac System, and Nagase Brothers partners. Coverage scales to the shoot's footprint, so a feature-scale shoot often runs 30 to 80 radios across teams. Rural Hokkaido and Okinawa exteriors break direct line-of-sight, so we bring in repeaters and long-range units.
We line up frequency licensing with the Japanese authorities ahead of the shoot. Short-term shoot licenses, sign-off documents, and shared frequency maps then go to each department head.
Video village blends director-to-set talkback, camera taps, script supervisor links, and wireless video. Multi-unit shoots get cleanly split channel plans with shared keys for lead staff. Pre-programmed, fully charged gear arrives on the day with backup units and on-site setup help. Your first AD then has a comms network that keeps the set running from call to wrap.
Use cases shape the package size. A Netflix Japan drama tying together camera, sound, and crowd control needs a deep radio count. A lean NHK or TBS doc crew often runs a handful of headsets and one base station. Commercial shoots in Roppongi or Akasaka sit between the two. We scope each kit to the call sheet, then add IFB feeds, talent earpieces, and surveillance kits only where the day truly calls for them.
Rental logistics stay simple. We deliver charged, labelled gear to sets across Tokyo, Osaka, and Kyoto, with regional runs out to Sapporo or Fukuoka on request. Our coordinators speak English and Japanese, so call sheets and channel maps read clearly for visiting crews. Day rates and weekly rates are quoted in JPY, with the 10 percent consumption tax shown as a separate line. You see the full cost before the truck rolls.
FAQ
Production Communication Expertise
What communication systems do you provide?
We supply full communication setups. These include two-way radios (Motorola digital and analog), production headsets, Clear-Com and Riedel intercom systems, IFB feeds for talent, and specialty coordination systems. The gear ranges from basic walkie-talkies up to complete broadcast intercom installations.
How many radios do I need for my production?
How many radios you need depends on crew size and how complex the shoot is. A typical feature shoot runs 30-80 radios across all departments. Our team reviews your needs and suggests the right counts with backup units, and we can add more gear during production as needed.
Can you provide coverage in remote locations?
Yes. We build systems for tough locations using repeaters, long-range gear, and multi-site planning. When we can, our team surveys each location in advance to spot coverage gaps and deploy the right fix.
Do you handle frequency licensing in Japan?
We arrange all frequency licensing with the Japanese authorities (ANFR). This covers short-term production licenses, frequency planning, and compliance records. Lead time varies by location and how much spectrum is free.
What about intercom systems for video village?
We supply full video village communication, including director-to-set comms, camera talkback, script supervisor links, and department coordination. The systems can tie in with wireless video so you get full tracking and talkback in one place.
How do you handle equipment for multiple units?
For multi-unit shoots, we build communication plans with separate channels per unit and shared frequencies for key staff, so the units can still coordinate across each other. Each unit gets its own full gear package.
