Color Grading and Visual Finishing Japan
A shoot across Japan builds up a huge visual range. That span covers the blue-white winter light of Sapporo, the warm haze of an Osaka summer interior, the flat grey overcast common to Tokyo shoots, and the bright tone of Okinawa exteriors.
Color & Visual Finishing is where all of that raw material comes into one clear visual language. Our colorists work from tuned suites, so each change holds across the full range of viewing settings, from cinema projection to streaming on consumer devices.
Color Correction sets the technical baseline, smoothing exposure gaps and balancing mixed lighting across shoot days and sites. Color Grading follows as the creative layer, and the look of the film gets set there. A grade for a commercial shot in the neon-bright streets of Akihabara reads very different from one built around the muted tones of a Kyoto autumn garden.
Our colorists work with directors and DPs from early Look Development sessions to shape that gap. Online Conform & QC then closes the process, checking that the finished grade is fully compliant before it reaches broadcast or release partners.
The toolchain runs on DaVinci Resolve Studio in suites tuned to Rec.709 and DCI-P3 reference. HDR rooms add Dolby Vision and HDR10+ chains when premium delivery calls for it. When feature scale needs more, conform and mastering route through Imagica and Sony PCL. We grade against the targets your release plan names. Those cover NHK 4K and 8K broadcast spec, Netflix Japan, and theatrical DCP for the Japanese cinema chain.
We run each project bilingually, with English-language coordination beside our Japanese suite teams. That keeps overseas directors close to the grade through remote review and clear notes.
