Post-Audio Finishing At Japan's Leading Facilities
Japan's audio post setup is built around a handful of top-tier houses, and that is where our jobs finish.
The work runs through Toho Studios' post wing in Setagaya, Sony PCL in Shinagawa, Imagica's Roppongi and Osaka rooms, and the pro ADR stages of Tokyo's Akasaka district. Between them they handle Dolby Atmos premixing, native 5.1 and 7.1 theatrical mixing, IMAX deliverables, and the M&E prep global distributors need. We pull together supervising sound editors, dialogue editors, sound designers, Foley artists, and re-recording mixers. All of them already work inside those rooms, so booking, scheduling, and creative talk move at shoot pace.
Flows route straight out of Avid Pro Tools Ultimate. Project hand-off comes in AAF or OMF, with the site-sound metadata your mixer delivered from set. ADR is bookable in Japanese and English, and regular voice-talent rosters cover Tokyo, Yokohama, and Osaka. Remote-record links into Los Angeles, London, and Seoul cover global cast.
Foley stages handle culturally set surfaces on request — tatami, wooden temple floors, Hokkaido snow. Each job closes with QC against the target platform spec (theatrical, NHK, Netflix Japan, TBS, Fuji TV). The result is a clean delivery package ready for release.
Specialist audio houses widen the room options beyond the majors. Tac System and OmnibusJapan add dialogue edit, sound design, and mix capacity when schedules get tight. We route the work to whichever Tokyo or Osaka room fits the format and the calendar. That flexibility matters across Golden Week in May and the Obon week in August, when stage time books out early. Session rates follow the Japanese Labor Standards Act, and every quote lists the 10 percent consumption tax in JPY.
A clean conform from set keeps post audio efficient. We take AAF or OMF with the production metadata, then check sync before the editorial phase begins. ADR sessions in Japanese and English book through the same network, with English-language liaison across each spotting and review pass. Mixes hold to Dolby Vision-paired Rec.709 and HDR picture targets so audio and image lock together. The final package ships QC-passed for theatrical, broadcast, or streaming release.
