SCENE 01 / PORTABLE POWER SOLUTIONS
Portable Power Solutions
Professional power solutions for film production anywhere in Japan.
Portable power keeps shoots running where the mains supply is weak or absent. In Japan, that means dense cities with strict noise rules, historic temple grounds, and remote mountains. Whisper-quiet power packs and battery systems are the key to all three.
We source portable power matched to your production's load and to Japan's own quirks, including the 50Hz/60Hz split between eastern and western Japan. Whether you film in Tokyo, Kyoto's temple districts, or Hokkaido's wilderness, our team makes sure the right power package is ready.

Portable Power For Japan's Toughest Locations
Power planning in Japan has its own rulebook.
Eastern Japan runs at 100V / 50Hz, and Western Japan runs at 100V / 60Hz, with the boundary cutting through Shizuoka. That split matters the moment a shoot moves between Tokyo, Yokohama, and Osaka in one week. Tokyo's noise rules make whisper power packs non-negotiable inside the wards, and Kyoto's temple precincts often refuse fuel power packs outright. Remote scenes on Mount Fuji's back roads or in Hokkaido's national parks need helicopter-portable units. Our power coordinators scope all of this from the kit list onward, then ship the right mix of power packs, battery packs, and distribution to each site.
Stock comes through Hibino, NAC Image Technology, and pro power pack houses in Tokyo and Osaka. That covers 20kVA to 200kVA film-spec silent power packs with operators, three-phase distribution for HMI-heavy night shoots, and V-mount and Gold-mount lithium packs for camera and on-board LED.
We also pull large-format Anton/Bauer Cine VCLX block batteries for full lighting builds, plus solar-fed systems for multi-day off-grid installs around Setouchi or Hokkaido. Each distribution box runs proper circuit cover and load balance, and each operator carries the Japanese electrical safety forms. Every quote has a power budget your gaffer can press on before the shoot.
Trained power-pack operators run the supply, not just the gaffer. They handle start-up, load tracking, refueling, and fault-finding through the shoot day. On larger HMI-heavy builds across Tokyo or Osaka, an operator stays dedicated to the distribution chain. Smaller battery setups can be run by briefed crew. Operator rates follow the Japanese Labor Standards Act, so turnaround and overtime stay compliant. English-language liaison runs through prep, so global gaffers know exactly what arrives.
Power bookings follow Japan's production calendar tightly. Silent film-spec generators and operators thin out fast across Golden Week in May and the Obon week in August. Remote-site units that need helicopter lift book even further ahead. We reserve capacity well before those peaks. Each power quote carries the 10 percent consumption tax in JPY. Every site plan also accounts for the eastern 50Hz and western 60Hz split before the truck rolls toward Nagoya, Sapporo, or Fukuoka.
FAQ
Professional Power Services
How do I calculate power requirements for my production?
Power needs come from your gear lists, and lighting draws the most. We help you add up total wattage, allow for startup surges, and pick the right power pack size with safety margins. Typical small shoots need 20-40kVA, while larger shoots may need 100kVA+.
What's the difference between film generators and standard generators?
Film power packs, also called whisper power packs, are built to run quietly, mostly 60-70dB at distance versus 80-90dB for standard units. That gap is key when you record sound. They also give cleaner, steadier power for sensitive gear.
Can you provide power for remote locations without road access?
Yes. We supply helicopter-portable power packs, portable battery systems, and solar setups for remote sites. Remote power needs planning well ahead so the capacity matches your production.
Do generators come with operators?
Power pack operators are ready and advised for larger shoots. They handle startup, tracking, refueling, load balancing, and fault-finding. For smaller power packs, trained production crew can run them with a proper briefing.
What battery options are available for silent shooting?
We supply high-capacity lithium battery systems for fully silent power. These range from portable packs for small setups to large battery arrays for full lighting packages. Battery systems work well for interview setups, sensitive location work, and any scene that needs zero power pack noise.
How is power distribution handled on set?
We supply distribution boxes, proper cable runs, and connection hardware. The distribution is managed to balance loads, protect circuits, and deliver safe power to every department. Our electrical team or power pack operator watches the distribution across the shoot.
