SCENE 01 / GIMBAL FILMING
Gimbal Filming Services
Smooth, stabilized camera movement for dynamic cinematography across Japan.
Gimbal filming uses stabilized camera platforms for fluid, shake-free movement while following the action. The rigs range from handheld units for light mirrorless cameras to heavy-lift systems that carry full cinema packages. They unlock dynamic shots across Japan. Crews work from Shibuya crossing and Ginza's neon streets to Kyoto's old temples, Mount Fuji and Hokkaido's wilderness.
We provide gimbal systems and skilled operators across Japan, with gear based at Toho Studios (where Netflix leases Stages 7 and 10), Toei Kyoto Studios and Toei Tokyo Studios. Our team matches the rig and crew to your shoot. That might be a Ronin 2 for a Shibuya walk-and-talk, or a heavy-lift MoVI for a feature claiming the J-LOC subsidy of up to 50%.

Stabilised Camera Movement Across Japan
Gimbal work in Japan ranges wide. It runs from a lone operator threading Shibuya Crossing at dusk to a heavy-lift kit walking a Sony Venice 2 through Toho Studios' Stage 7 in Tokyo.
Our operator pool runs DJI Ronin 2, RS4 Pro, Freefly MoVI Pro and MoVI Carbon rigs each day across Tokyo, Yokohama, Osaka and Kyoto. They know the cinema bodies that come through Toho, Toei Tokyo and Toei Kyoto Studios. Sony's Tokyo base brings factory-level support for Venice 2 kits. That is a real lift for shoots claiming the J-LOC subsidy of up to 50%.
Each booking is matched to the scene's tempo, not a stock kit list. Run-and-gun doc days through Asakusa and the Ginza arcades use lighter handheld rigs. Commercial car work for Toyota, Honda or Nissan often pairs the gimbal with car-mount setups.
Feature drama and series work calls for cinema-grade rigs with wireless follow focus, a remote head and a full assistant team. Operators show up pre-balanced, with spare batteries and consumables on hand. They also know the cultural codes for shrines, temples and public spaces. Set-up time stays short, so creative time stays long.
Scheduling bends to Japan's tightly permitted locations. Crowded sites like Shibuya Crossing and Asakusa need early call times to thin the background. Shrine and temple precincts hold to set visiting windows we lock first. Our gimbal crew keeps the footprint small, so a walk-and-talk can move fast between marks. English-language coordination runs through the day, and one assistant tracks batteries, lens swaps, and the shot order. We hold backup windows for weather and crowd surges around peak hours.
On wrap the footage is built for the edit, not just dumped to card. Our team delivers logged files with full metadata attached. We grade in DaVinci Resolve and hold a clean Rec.709 master plus an HDR pass when the brief calls for it. Heavier finishing routes to local partners such as Imagica or Sony PCL. Japanese consumption tax of 10% applies, and all quotes and invoices are issued in JPY.
FAQ
Stabilized Cinematography Expertise
What gimbal systems do you provide in Japan?
We run all major gimbal platforms from bases in Tokyo, Osaka and Kyoto. These include the DJI Ronin 2, RS3 Pro, RS4 Pro, Freefly MoVI Pro and MoVI Carbon. With Sony based in Tokyo, our Sony Venice 2 support is especially strong.
Can you support heavy cinema cameras?
Yes. Our heavy-lift gimbals support the ARRI Alexa Mini LF, RED V-Raptor, Sony Venice 2 and similar cinema cameras. These are the bodies used on Toho Studios shoots, including Netflix Tokyo shoots, and on global features. We handle proper balancing and power for long shoots.
Do you provide operators or just equipment?
We provide skilled gimbal operators as standard, drawn from Japan's Asian talent pool. They know the tech systems and the look needed for smooth, purposeful movement. They also know the cultural rules of filming in Japan.
What shots work best with gimbals?
Gimbals excel at walk-and-talk sequences, tracking through spaces, following action, reveal shots and long moving takes. They give smooth motion with a mobility that dolly or Steadicam setups cannot match.
How do gimbals compare to Steadicam?
Gimbals are lighter, faster to set up and more mobile than Steadicam. However, Steadicam gives a different look and can carry heavier cameras. We can advise on the best fit for your specific shots.
Can you integrate wireless follow focus?
Yes. We integrate wireless follow focus into gimbal setups, so a focus puller can control the lens remotely while the operator stays on the movement. We also support wireless video tracking.
