SCENE 01 / HMI TUNGSTEN LIGHTS

HMI & Tungsten Lights

Professional film lighting for your Japanese production.

Scroll

HMI and tungsten lights are industry-standard fixtures. They deliver powerful, steady lighting for film and television work. HMIs give bright, daylight-balanced output while drawing little power, and tungsten fixtures give warm, dimmable light that remains a staple for controlled interior and studio work.

We source HMI and tungsten fixtures in the wattages and setups your gaffer asks for, drawing from local rental stock. Our team plans power distribution and makes sure spare lamps and parts are ready, so your lighting setups run without a hitch.

HMI and Tungsten Rentals Across Japan

Gaffers working in Japan lean on us for HMI and tungsten kits that hold up against it all. That spans the harsh contrast of a Tokyo summer afternoon and the long blue hours of a Hokkaido winter.

We source ARRI M-series 1.2K through 18K HMIs, K5600 Joker and Alpha units, and tungsten Fresnels from 150W Dedolights up to 20K Mole-Richardson. Stock comes from Tac System, Hibino, and Nagase Brothers. Each shoot gets tested heads, fresh ballasts, and back-up lamps lined up with its camera prep day.

Every kit is built around what the site really needs. We plan power for historic Kyoto temples with tight mains. Power-pack-tied 18Ks suit exteriors along the Okinawa coastline, while dimmable tungsten serves warm interior work in Osaka and Yokohama soundstages.

Tokyo humidity and Hokkaido sub-zero swings both punish bulbs, so we ship spare globes, head cables, and igniters in each truck. Our local Japanese gaffers know the country's three-phase tie-ins and odd sockets. From a 1.2K interview setup in Fukuoka to a full 200kW rig on a Shinjuku rooftop, we deliver fixtures that fire first time, every time.

The fixture mix follows the production type. A TBS studio drama leans on dimmable tungsten Fresnels for warm, controllable interiors. A Netflix Japan feature often wants big HMIs to punch daylight through windows on built sets. A commercial unit near Mount Fuji needs portable Joker heads for fast exterior fill. We weigh the brief with your gaffer, then carry only the wattages each scene truly demands, plus the gels to balance daylight and tungsten sources.

Rental logistics are handled end to end. We deliver HMI and tungsten packages to sets across Tokyo, Osaka, and Kyoto, with regional runs to Sapporo or Okinawa on request. Our English-and-Japanese coordinators keep visiting gaffers and sparks briefed at each step. Day rates, weekly rates, and lighting crew are quoted in JPY, with the 10 percent consumption tax itemised. You approve the full lighting cost before any head leaves the rental house.

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

What HMI sizes do you stock?

We carry a full range of HMI fixtures from 575W through 18K, including ARRI M-series and K5600 Alpha. Most shoots use a mix of 1.2K, 2.5K, and 4K units, with bigger fixtures for exterior work or large interior spaces.

Do you provide generators?

Yes, we arrange power packs sized to your lighting package, from small portable units to large tow-behind ones for heavy HMI loads. Our team plans where they sit and keeps them fuelled for your production.

What tungsten options are available?

We stock ARRI tungsten Fresnels from 150W to 20K, Mole-Richardson units, and special fixtures like Dedolights. Tungsten stays popular for interior scenes that need warm, controllable light.

Can you provide gaffers and electricians?

Yes, we work with skilled Japanese gaffers and electricians who know both the gear and local power systems. A local lighting crew means quick setup and safe operation.

What about power distribution?

We supply full power distribution, including distro boxes, cable runs, and dimmer systems. Our team can advise on power needs and set up tie-ins where they fit.

Do you offer mixed HMI/tungsten packages?

Yes, many shoots use both HMI (daylight-balanced) and tungsten (warm) fixtures. We build mixed packages and carry the gels and filters needed to balance between sources.

Productions in Japan that need this often pair it with Lighting Equipment Rental and Lighting Modifiers for full coverage. Most projects also draw on LED Lighting Systems and Cinema Lens Kits.
